There's a recent post by Fox on this on here or you can check www.bmw5.co.uk where there is a buying guide on there.

I've bought a 52 plated 530d touring recently - epic car. not as much fun to drive as my 325i e30 but as a mile muncher, kids (and their huge amount of stuff needed to cart about), safety (loads of car around you and air bags galore), sturdy interior (child proof).

The only problem I've had so far is the pixellation issue. But it seems to get better or worse depending on the temperature and it's not too bad so I can live with it at the moment.

Good luck fella.

I would suggest going for an automatic rather than manual 530d, as it suits the car so well and is also appreciated for resale value.

Do make sure you get some swirl flaps.

Timing chain, so in principle never to be replaced. Swirl flaps, turbo and injectors are more of a worry (search for these). Why not go for a 530i if you want a manual, better combination IMHO, than a manual 530d, which incidentially also eliminates worries about injectors, turbo and swirl flaps...
