Hi Guys,

Sorry for a question that's most likely been asked a few times.

Please can anybody point me in the direction of a buyers guide for the E91 330/335 diesel or petrol Touring?

Any thoughts on what I should be looking out for with these? Budget is £16-18k and I'm after
- 330 or 335 Touring
- Must be an M-Sport
- Don't care if it's diesel or petrol
- Ideally 2007 model but not too bothered about 2006 unless there is a specific reason
- Leather is unimportant, happy with or without

Also, does the E90 have the efficient dynamics start/stop feature?

Thanks in advance

Editted to add: I'd need manual, neither my wife or I like Autos

The 335d is out for you then as you dont like auto's, they dont do manuals in saloon or touring.

Should have mentioned that I realised the 335d is auto only.

Is the auto box any good? Could I be converted? More importantly, could my Mrs who is more against an Auto than I am.

I'd personally, happily consider a DSG type box but normally not an auto due to experience on smaller engined (hire) cars.

The ZF 6 speed auto box in the 335d is very good and bullet proof, only you can know if you can be converted, you need to try one. The gear changes are extremely smooth and changes are very hardly noticed except by watching the rev counter. Its no use asking on a forum if your Mrs can be converted, you need to get her in one too to find out...

Cheers, I'll keep my eyes peeled for suitable ones and get the Mrs in one. Even if it just confirms that we don't want an Auto.

Of course, the 335i is available as manual (?)

I'd have thought that either of the 335's would be out of budget to be honest. Perhaps a 330d manual tourer might be the "best" option to go for. Bags of torque and real world pace. Great cars. smile

Great, that's excellent advice cheers.

Any thoughts on things to watch out for specific to these cars? Ideally I'm trying to find some sort of buyers guide. Any advice on whether extending the warranty period is a good idea or not (maybe I should search for that though)

Hi Trevor.

There is no ED stop/start thing for the 6 cylinder models.

I've an E90 330i MSport with a manual and it's really really nice. The economy is excellent for what it is and it can certainly shift.

Either 330d or 330i would be a good choice if you need a manual. If you do a lot of miles maybe take the 330d, if not then the 330i would probably be a bit cheaper like for like and you get a bit more power. Horses for courses smile

Your clearly not going to be buying BMW auc 335i/d out of budget and touring 330i/d that age again budget is tight unless big miles and basic m sport spec is what your after.

I'll be taking delivery of a 330D touring (E91) in a couple of days. It's auto and suits the diesel engine perfectly. It drove very nicely indeed.

I was always an anti-auto person, reinforced by the crap box in a V5 Golf I had. That was replaced by a 2006 E91 330i M-Sport Touring auto, which has been a revelation - I love it! The box is nice and responsive, especially in sport mode where it also holds each gear up to the red line. You should at least try one.

You're budget might be a bit tight for a 2007 - I'm trading mine in (2006/06, leather but no sat nav) against a Landrover at an independent dealer and been offered £15.5K, diesel would probably be more.

I wouldn't even consider a diesel in manual guise, rev range is far too short, constantly swapping cogs.

The BMW auto is superb, I actually prefer it to the Audi DSG.

If you want manual get a petrol, in fact if your not fussed about it financially get the petrol anyway. I would take the 330i over the 335d myself, had the twin turbo diesel and it is great, but the petrol is special. smile

Is the BMW Auto a 'tradition/normal' auto or is it a dual-clutch type?
Maybe I just need to forget all the <2 litre autos that I've driven in the past and give the a >2 litre auto a try.

I've been having a look and for my budget a 2006 325/330 is likely. For 2007 models I can only afford a 320d... Do I even want to go there?

Is vehicle age really an issue with these?

320d is a perfectly decent car - very much depends on your priorities. Do you want a bias towards performance or economy ?

Age is not really an issue - buy on condition and history.

(The autos you are looking at are traditional rather than twin clutch I believe)
