I was wondering if you fine PH'rs have any experience of installing "performance" chips / remaps in your 530d's or similar models ?

I'm itching to try one of the many chips out there in my E60 530d auto.

Some of the chipe claim fantastic things for a mere £99 !!!!

Let me know your experiences !

Cheers,

Fletch

Get an ECU remap. Not a tuning box or any of that crap.

E-maps is always recommended here.

A remap is the way ahead.

Wise men have said in the past "buy cheap, buy twice" and "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" i.e. don't ruin your can with a cheapo modification. I've got a good guy who's done cars for me before if you're interested

I've been extremely satisfied with Superchips re-maps on 2 BMW TD's.

I have an E60 530dSE Auto, which I took from the BMW dealer stright to the Superchips agent!

Plenty of companies to choose from.

I've also heard very good things about this piece of kit that complements a remap (and actually works well without a remap too):

Im quite sure the OP actually is referring to a Re-map when he says ''chip''.

What mileage is the car? Is it good working order? any leaks, oil burning etc?

You need to consider a few things first.

Loving the ''Kicked in'' spin off!

I had a 530d which was chipped, it went well it was chipped @ 50k and I sold it at 150k. It was professional done and cost £450, however it smoked like mad underload which really really annoyed me

Possible clean up of EGR valve and intake manifold may have sorted it. Did you check the oil breather to make sure it was plastic vortex type and not old loo roll style.

Yes cleaned the crap and I mean crap out the EGR valve and the manifold, and changed the oil breather for the newer style, it helped a bit, oil breather is a very easy and cheap fix and should be done as part of the service shedule, many garages miss it, so make sure yours has been changed

Ultimately it was overfueling hence the black smoke

Had fitted a Van Aken Smart Box to my 530D Touring ran it for 6 years no probs and never lower than 36 mpg (manual gearbox). Would recommend without hesitation.
