Anyone fitted their own towbar?
Discussion
Going to be having a crack at this today on my e90 potentially. Don't mind the mechanical bits, but the electrics are a bit of an unknown.
Going to be fitting a smart bypass relay. Reasonably happy about working out which wires from the lighting loom to tap, but no idea where to get a 12v switched feed from.
Anyone have any experience? Or even a fitted towbar + relay from which they could have a look and tell me where the power feed comes from

I fitted a Westfalia to my E60, which has the bus bar electrics and basically, there were plenty of large red cables, which I tested carefully with my multimeter to identify a suitable switched live. It is more tricky to work out, but I used plenty of masking tape to identify each wire's mode and then put the splices in place. Personally, I tin the ends of the copper to ensure a better connection, before using decent quality crimps. I had the most problem actually finding somewhere behind the trim to locate the relay.

Did you have a multimeter that could test for current without exposing the wires or did you do something else clever? (I expect this is a stupid question, but the only "contact free" multimeters I know of are for AC)
