316i irratic tickover

Hi Guys,


I have a 95 BMW 316i which has just started playing up, problem seems to be the tick over its a bit irratic and unsettled and randomly will go up to about 1500 revs then back down again,its still no problem to drive. Now before it gets any worse and i book it in to a main dealer and get ripped off, has anyone any suggestions as to what it could be, i dont know if this is a common problem or not.
Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Idle control valve?

Go on you tube and there's pretty useful demonstration videos of 'how to' fettle with most things on E36's

Had a similar problem on my 318is, up to 1500, drop to 800, up to 1500, drop to 800, like bloody clockwork. had a service, new filters etc - Problem solved! Hope this helps =)
