hello, looking for a bit of help please

my dad has a 56 reg 318i and has been quoted £600 by Bridgegate for new pads and disks. car has done 30k miles

i'm not suprised at how much a main dealer wants to do the job, anyone got an idea of how much an indy is likely to charge, and also, anyone know a good BMW indy in the Derby/Burton area?

2 weeks ago I bought genuine BMW discs and pads from www.bmminiparts.co.uk for £242 delivered, a sensor from my dealer for £18 and paid an indy £94 to fit.

This was on a 07 335d. BMW wanted £220 + vat just for the pads ! (supply and fit)

E4 Coupe.... Replacement discs and pads all round for £160.00

Bought A Haynes and had the lot done in 4 hours...

E46's are incredibly simple cars to work on (I have very little mechanical experience)and required very simple tools to complete.

Don't know if you'd be that way inclined but worth a mention!!

Edited - Sorry, not even sure 56 plate could be a E46??

Operating a dvd player is a challenge so i think a spanner and a haynes manual would be a step too far!

My 550 has just had new discs and pads from my specialist along with handbrake adjust and a general overall check of fluids, suspension and tyres. The bill comes out at just over £500 - the discs alone were only available from BMW so they cost around £135 each. Not too bad - at BMW I think it would have cost £1k+

It's true that e46's are very easy to work on, not so sure about e90 but some good advice posted.

If you don't mind trying then it could be worth doing yourself, e46 was easy to do because so well engineered and no doubt the e90 is much the same.
