Hi,
Seeking views / thoughts on what to spend circa £30k on. Looking at 330 / 335 petrol or diesel. Probably narrowed down to M Sport hooked up to an auto. Small trips usually and 8k per annum. Cost differential no issue just looking for the best all rounder, speed is not the be all and end all. Any must have toys ? Sometimes there are just too many options / choices!
Thanks

Absolutely no point getting the D with that mileage.

Would you not see around 12mpg on short runs in that? (bearing in mind i could get 21mpg round town in a 535d)

If so, budget £3300 a year for fuel.

That 650i looks fantastic, love the colour and the exterior. Would be sorely tempted by that if I was changing.

Will be around 20mpg round town, I used to get around 22/23mpg in my 535d sport touring round town, then got a 335i and got 26mpg from that!!

The new 535d and the 335d I can get 28ish round town though.

I would jump at that 650i, however I thought that in 2005 it was a 545i??

Hmm....

I still dont think a 4.8 litre v8 is going to do anything better than mid teens around town.

I'm not sure what your point is - the o/p has already said they're interested in the best all rounder as opposed to opening the petrol v diesel debate?

Thanks to all, I've now stepped up to the mark and bought a 330 petrol, as found smoother and more suited for my lifestyle.
Cheers again.

Sorry, should have added my old mans partner has one and it is constantly 20.8mpg on his OBC, he only uses it round, he used to have a 535d saloon and he got 24mpg from that, he was expecting 16mpg from the 650i and was surprised.

I was interested in this thread as I'm currently trying to make the choice between petrol or Diesel for my next car.

I decided to contribute to this thread by posting a link to a very useful website which helps when making the choice between Petrol or diesel.

The point was that I thought the Original Poster might want to spend a few moments looking at that link, and it might hopefully help him in making his choice between petrol or diesel.

Another good reason for posting the link was that if anyone else does a search to include the terms 'petrol or diesel' this thread will come up and they will might also find the link useful.

I can't see the part where the Original Poster said they were "interested in the best all rounder as opposed to opening the petrol v diesel debate" perhaps it has been deleted.

If there's anything else you need clarifying do let me know.

All the more reason for not posting the link, as its based purely on buying a diesel car to save money. The O/P asked specifically about the best all rounder, not on the one which would save him money? Believe it or not there are people out there who do prefer the driving characteristics of a diesel.

Also, as is the usual with these headline posts - their headline figures dont include the better residual value of the diesel car come resale time.

No, its in the very first post the O/P made if you want to read it.
