Hi,

I currently folk out about £14 a litre for Castrol LL04 from BMW. I've spoken to GSF who can do 4 litres of a Fuchs equivalent for £33 + VAT, it's a LL01 5w30

Has anyone found a cheaper source of oil? My car uses about a litre every 1200 miles so it's getting pricey.

I think you should look at getting the sympton sorted. My 330 definetly uses no where near that amount of oil eek

As for oil, some of the ebay sellers do some decent deals on 4/8L sets.

Many 330s don't, many do ....but that usage is within spec for an E46 330i if you ask BMW.
Some say it depends on how they were run in, others on type of usage

Have you checked your crankcase breathers?

I would find a mate with a costco card and get him to get you some Mobil 1 (about £22 for 4 litres).

It is LL01, but I believe LL04 spec is more for Diesels and LL01 is perfectly adequate for the M54 3 litre petrol.

BMW's accepted oil consumption for the E46 330i can be as low as 600 miles per 1 litre of oil.

As Shropshiremike has said, it varies greatly from car to car.
I also agree, get the crankcase breather checked, it's a known cause of oil consumption on the E36 and the E46 series.
