E46 Touring 2005 320d - Drinks Fuel!
Discussion
Just bought the above from a garage and I'm having a couple of problems:
1. First, second and reverse gears can be notchy and stubborn when trying to select> Clutch seems fine. The garage have suggested the selectors/bushes may need attention. Thoughts?
2. According to the computer I am getting about 36mpg for a mix of 60% motorway / 40% around the doors. A friend has the same car and gets 45 - 50mpg. If the computer is accurate (I will have to check) thoughts on potential problems? Pulls fine. (Computer has been reset)
Garage are to examine however I am looking for some ideas
Thanks
Graham

How many miles has it done? Does it has full service history?
I used to have an '04 320d manual and averaged well over 40 around town and 50+ on a run.
Maybe worth changing the fuel/air filters and also the MAF? A brake might be slightly binding but I'd think you'd get a warning on the dash for this.
Just changing the MAF in my old Focus (@105k) increased the MPG from 40 to 50/53 on a run.
The OBC on BMW's are fairly accurate but I would also do a manual calculation based on fill up to fill up.
Not sure about the gear change issue. Is it constantly notchy or only when it's cold?
