Hi Guys.

After a bit of advice

Friend has a 525d Manual on a 53 plate, its covered 75k.

Just recently it has started smoking excesively.

My first question is, does anybody know if this engine has the swirl flaps on the manifold?
Im wondering if they have been eaten into the turbo, hence the smoke, and slight lack of power.

Also, when we checked the oil, it was below the minimum mark, the car had a full service in October, and has covered about 5k sinace then, would the loss of oil have anything to do with this?

Any ideas what this can be? Im stuck for ideas!

Could be EGR valve issue, could be the turbo on it's way out. If the flaps had been swallowed he would know about it.

Hi Id didnt think the 525d engine had problems with the swirl flaps, thought it was just the 320d and 330d after 2001.
If it was the swirl flaps the engine eats them and is a total write off so it wont be them.
If at standstill you are get covered in smoke then its probably the turbo on its way out, with it using oil id say its that as the seals go and oil get through onto the exhaust hence the smoke through burning oil.
