The backbox on my E30 318is has started to blow and is gradually getting louder and louder. I therefore want to get a new backbox fitted before it gets ridiculously loud.

My question is, has anybody got any experience of Supersprint systems on a 318is? I have heard that their build quality is good, but someone told me that they are quite loud and I don't want to sound like a boy racer and draw attention from the police.

I would therefore like to know if anyone has heard one fitted so I can decide to go for an aftermarket or OEM (if not NLA) backbox.

All opinions gratefully received! thumbup

Cheers

Hi there

Supersprint are quality exhuasts no doubt about it. I used to have plenty of E30's back in the day and couldn't justify the price back then for a supersprint!

I'd also be very surprised if it was a 'loud' and 'droney' exhaust - SuperSprint I'm sure aren't in the market for making their systems sound like that.

I'm also 'semi surprised' supersprint are still making back boxes for E30's - It's been quite a while since I've moved on from all my E30's so perhaps they are still catering to the owners/market.

I'd say give it a go, read up on Supersprint as well, they're not really known for boom box exhausts - unless things have changed recently.

If you don't go for it, then talk to Powerflow and they'll make up a box for you and also if you state prior that you want a 'quiet' sounding box they'll be able to do it. If you don't like it, they'll take it off and redo it to be quieter. You do need one of the Powerflow dealers who are good than some of the 'reported' lazier ones to get a good fit and result wink plus their pricing is decent as well for the product you get. Sure they're not like the Magnaflows, SuperSprints and Milltek's of this world, but those systems are like 4 times the price!

Good luck! Dennis! West London & Slough UK!

Original BMW is the way to go if you are unsure. I think it's generally recognised that BMW did a good job on the intake and exhaust system of the E30. Perhaps the manifolds are a little restrictive but apart from that they did a good job.

I've heard good things about supersprint. It's not the backbox that make the noise for the most part; it's the middle box(es) that need to be tuned to get rid of the drone. Yes the backbox has an effect but the biggest are the middle ones just to let you know.

Alpina make a good exhaust too but tres cher and very rare to find unfortunately.

Good luck.

Unfortunately Eisenmann don't do an exhaust for the E30 318is. frown

If you decide on a standard one I got mine from Leisureshack.co.uk as not many places stock them for the E30 iS, plenty for the E36 typically smile

Price has gone up a little since I got mine but still a lot cheaper than one from BMW. Mine was a Bosal one so the quality wasn't bad either

Cheers
