i have an e39 530 diesel sport, manuel, 2002 model with 125,000 miles. i lent it to my brother and he split the inlet manifold, i have got a replacement one but was wondering why it split? has this happened to anyone else? i dont think he was gunning it. i just dont want the new one to split as soon as i put it on. i have tried to seal it back up but it split again, has anyone successfully repaired one? if so how? thanks in advance.

Its not unheard of for this to happen. I have seen a few cases of this happening. i think one guy did a temp fix using an expoy or some heavy strong adhesive and clamped it down for 24 hours to let it dry.. but this was a temp fix.

its nothing to do with overboost or anything like that, its a design fault..

yea i thought it would be a very temp fix, what about getting it plastic welded? i bought one which came off a 330 diesel sport and fitted that today, i had to remove the swirl flaps though as the old one didnt have them, it works fine now though. thanks ffor the info, i think i a remap is the next step.
