After a day of angle grinding, drilling and welding I have now a nice frame for the seat.

I was just about to tighten it all up when my mate noticed that the female part of the buckle is attached to the OE seat. Sitting in the garage.

Bummer.

What have others done about this? I could take it off the OE seat, make up a right angled bracket and bolt it to the frame I've made, or use something else that doesn't need a right angled bracket (i.e. it'd have a horizontal mounting bracket I can bolt straight under the rear bolt - this would by far be my preferred route as there's not a lot of room down there and if I added a right angle bracket it'd make it almost impossible to get to the main seat mounting bolt and tighten it up)

Which other manufacturers use the same size buckles as BMWs of the E36 vintage?

The rear belts have a handy buckle that is just on a metal bracket with a hole in.
Pull up the rear bench and take a look, if it's any use, grab one from a breakers for a 5-er

Cheers, I will take a gander tomorrow.

MOT isn't for ages yet so I'll nick the one from the rear bench and use that in the meantime.

If you're going for bucket seats then shirley you'll want some harnesses?

The reason for fitting bucket seats is I don't have enough headroom with the standard seat to wear a crash helmet.

Maybe I'll fit a harness (and strip out the rest of the car) if I get addicted to track days and want to do a little bit of racing smile
