Just looked at a 335 Coupe. Lovely drive - but engine was rather muted.

My weekend car is a Z4 3.0. To increase the engine (induction) noise it's quite easy to remove a piece of foam from inside a pipe near the bulkhead.

Has anyone done this to a 335? Can it be done?

Turbochargers do a good job of muffling both exhaust and intake noise. So inlet tweaks like you describe won't have so much effect. But if it's easy to try, then it's unlikely to hurt.
Still, out of the 2, a suitably fruity exhaust will get you far closer to the mark.

Yup, youre not going to gain much in the way of induction noise on a turbo car without serious mods. Open intakes and such like won't gain you induction noise, just make the turbos louder....i.e. more phfft's and whistling noises.

smile awesome post. Before you check the profile and say anything, no it doesn't even have a stereo!

I do wonder why Audi and BMW don't make their cars sound better.

e.g. test drove a V8 S4 yesterday. From outside the car sounds great - but inside..... :-( Same for the 335.

How hard can it be? Surely a switch inside the car (such as that fitted to my mate's 911) to control the volume would make sense?

Isn't there a vacuum controlled switch for the exhaust flaps that can very easily be overridden?

Something like this? http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=806...

If you want to increase engine noise, buy the diesel.

Why not just site a microphone somewhere in the vicinity of your exhaust pipe.
Route it to your car stero - hey presto amplified car exhaust at any volume you want. If it's a decent stereo you can tune the output to get your exhaust to sound exactly as you want it to.

Problem solved and it's completely and simply reversible.
