Dad has a lovely 2002 330D Touring. Loaded for the year, including what appears to be the mark one version of sat nav. This was a small orange pixel display built into the head unit, this display also incorporates the trip computer controls. Anyway, the car has a bluetooth kit installed, which didn't work properly. Being the resourceful fellow I am, I decided to get him a Parrot kit fitted. I noticed a well known chain of polish and car part sellers, offered Parrot kits fiited for £20 when you buy from them. Being cheap, I decided to get a new kit from Ebay, which I duly did, saving about £40. I then paid one of the aforementioned chains "fitters" to install the Parrot as a private job, saving me a few more pennies.

Lo and behold the head unit now works erratically because, as it turns out the cocktard who fitted it wired it incorrectly. HAving since had the wiring checked and the head unit examined I learn the unit is now dead. My replacement-via an extremely nice chap on here is £550!!! Couldn't find the head unit on Ebay or anywhere else after a WORLD wide search. Apparently this unit was so expensive when new that take up on it was minimal. If anyone happens across BMW part no. 65 126 976 899 PLEASE contact me.

Otherwise, my two pieces of advice are. 1. Despite reasonable sounding prices DO NOT let ANYONE from that well known chain of M/V accessories work on, or indeed NEAR your car, not even to change a bulb. 2. See 1.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble but the sat nav fitted isn't a daftly expensive version - just a poor mans version of the wide screen nav and tv. People didn't spec it because it was rubbish.

The radio unit is a single slot unit, isn't it? i.e. you have the heater controls directly below it

You might be able to put in a standard BMW in-dash CD head unit ? Should be a lot cheaper than £500. Or , replace with an aftermarket stereo, of which any will fit with the right adaptor kit

Suggest speaking to a shop that knows BMW stereos and the different combinations. You may be able to sell the radio unit from the boot if you do this, could recoup some cash.

Dear Fun Bus-thanks for bursting my bubble! I wasn't suggesting the system was aces, it came with the car and looks like an early version of sat nav-it works and the screen which incorporates the sat nav display also controls the trip computer, speed limiter etc. Ergo thats what I need to replace. Just shocked at the price!

You should be able to change the OBC using the stalk too.

They are on German ebay all the time and go for peanuts.

You can just put in a regular BMW head unit, you need the 17 pin unit, not the later 40 pin quadlock.
