Desperate for some help!

I have a 98 840 that is showing issues with the instrument cluster. Basically speedo is fine but temp, tacho and fuel gauge are no longer working. Purchased a second hand instrument cluster but still having the same problems.
After spending hours hunting high and low it would seem the problem isnt peculiar to the 8 series. Have checked the pins on the ECU and also the fuses to no avail.
Does anyone else have any ideas what else I can check? Dont want to take it to a stealer as last time they told me BMW didnt make an 8 series!

Have you pulled the fuses ( including the main cluster one )and then tried turning it off and on again and then re-inserting the fuses trick?After spending hours hunting high and low it would seem the problem isnt peculiar to the 8 series.
