740i Throttle Jamming

Hi all

I have quite a serious issue with my 1996 740i, the throttle pedal feels very stiff and lifeless, when you rev the engine from under the bonnet you can see the rubber has perished and as a result the top part of the cable moves about and gets jammed on the bracket.

Does anyone know a solution to this problem as I dont really want to drive the car like this.

mine did this. a good spray of wd40 did the trick!
