Thinking of an X5?
Discussion
As above but if your going to get a 3.0d be wary of these problems
Injectors
Mass Air Flow sensors
Vacumn pipes split - causing poor performance
If your getting one with all the toys probably would be good to check and make sure every single thing works.
Also come across the nav drives being faulty - reads the discs but then has problems ejecting and loading them.
I loved the one we had (2001 3.0d Sport with all the toys) and was sad to see it go - only real thing that got annoying was the firmness of the ride - but its down to personal taste

I've had a 2001 4.4 V8 sport. Nice enough car but whenever I parked next to a Range Rover (02>) I thought I'd bought the wrong car.
I wouldn't be too bothered about the nav / TV anymore , the TV will be analogue and if not already obsolete in your area , soon will be . The BMW sat nav system from this era is s
te , a cheap TomTom will be much better. Buy one a bit cheaper without the nav/ tv and install an up to date head unit / fascia plate. A gas converted V8 will be a much better proposition than a diesel

I thought the later Mk4 sat nav was ok especially when you update it to the later 3D perspective. Can you not get a DAB tuner as well to replace the existing TV tuner?I wouldn't be too bothered about the nav / TV anymore , the TV will be analogue and if not already obsolete in your area , soon will be . Hi,
I bought my 55 reg 3.0d sport in Sept last year & I love it.
It drives superb & the handling is great for such a big car.
I need a big car ( large siberian husky ! ) but wanted sonething reasonably sporty to drive & the X5 ticks all the boxes.
I would agree with comments on satnav, it's not worth the premium but they say it's harder to sell without it. Mines got digital tv & MK4 dvd based nav ( upgraded to 3d etc ) but it's still not as good as my £ 100 Garmin ! I've hardly ever used the tv either.
Phil.

Agree with the SATNAV comment, as my 330d sport has the mk3 satnav and analogue TV but my iphone (with TOMTOM is a LOT better!).I bought my 55 reg 3.0d sport in Sept last year & I love it.

Still seriously thinking of one!
