E39 rear window motor problem

hello all.

I put the rear window down this morning (on my 1997 E39) and when i tried to put it back up, nothing happened. joy .

I've managed to get the inside door panel off and with some jigglin, managed to get the window back up, albeit with some scrapping noises. It really didnt seemed to want to go up.

can i summise that the motor has packed up and jammed in the 'down' position? i'm thinking this because obviously there wasnt enough power to take the window back up without some force. I dont have any electric testing equipment to test the motor, and obviously dont want to start buying new parts if they can be fixed..

appreciate any suggestions guys.
