Considering getting an SMG E46 M3 and know some people get twitchy about the cost of repair on pump failures on cars with higher miles.
Can anyone clarify the facts on the potential cost of failure? The cars I'm looking at are all between 45k and 70k on the clock.
Ive seen 'perfect working order' pump and clutch assembly at breakers for £300, but have no idea what is involved in the repair or what it would cost to do it properly with new parts.
thanks

Well the pump actually sits in the bowels on the engine bay, somewhere close to the starter motor? correct me if im wrong.
But as im sure your aware, any gearbox related work on BMW's could require the gearbox to be removed which in itself is a long and expensive process compared to a FWD layout.
Well my guess, with that £300 2nd hand unit, a good Indy, maybe 600-900?
