A long shot I'm sure but any help would be much appreciated

I have a 2005 BMW 530d (E60) which has the professional phone system fitted. This system was popular back in the days when you could get a dual SIM for your phone and leave one in the car (which you can't these days)

Ironically it has bluetooth so the car's handset can talk to the car but, frustratingly, even though you can 'pair' a regular mobile with the car, it simply doesn't work.

BMW have advised that I'd need a £2k conversion to make it work like a regular bluetooth system, surely this can't be right (or the only option)?

Does anybody know of a conversion service/system to convert the professional handset system to a regular bluetooth system?

Many thanks in anticipation

I have exactly the same problem. Spent ages trying to pair all my old mobile phones with the bluetooth in the car, to no effect, before I discovered it would only pair with the Motorola cordless thing in the armrest.

While I don't yet have the solution, a couple of potential answers have come to mind:

1. Replace the prof phone with an Eject Box and Snap In Adaptor - I have no idea if this would work though, or whether you'd need to replace some more hidden electronics.

2. Get a Dension Gateway 500 (which I want to play music from my iPod anyway) and add the Bluetooth module. I don't know if this will work either, since I can imagine the hands-free system not wanting to work with the Bluetooth module if there's already a hard-wired phone.
