Trying to get hold of the company who appears to be the only distributor for this product www.toysinyourcar.com is next to impossible. Anyone got one of these toys in their bmw? Does it allow phone function as well??? Are there any alternatives to hooking your iPod/Phone up to the car?

Cheers

Dan

I have one. It is without exception the absolute best way of connecting ipod to your E46/E39.

Only snag is that it relies on the Alpine AINET equipment to work and this is discontinued.

I bought mine from toysinyourcar.com about 18 months ago. Simple to fit and I use it daily with my iPhone 3GS.

It doesn't charge the phone which I'm happy with and I have the phone connected to the blue tooth hands-free at the same time with no issues.

I have a Griffin Autopilot. It's great - it charges the iPhone / iPod and lets you change track, and takes a line output, rather than using the headphone out. Doesn't display track names, though.

The perfect solution if you don't have a USB port.

Only £20ish from Amazon etc

OK. I have a 2002 M3 with widescreen sat nav. Is it likely that my car is fitted with this Alpine AINET equipment?

I take it you mean the bmw hands free that came with your car? Do you know how much it costs to get this retro-fitted?

Yes, the one with the car and no idea on cost of retrofit. Sorry. It's the only option on my car though. Imagine the embarrassment every time I get a passenger in the car and they see a cassette player FFS!

No, it wont be - the AI-Net stuff is aftermarket and is the link between the Ipod and your Intravee. Your Intravee then links the AI-Net stuff to your CD changer connection.

Same here. Thankfully hidden behind the sat nav. Why would you order a car with the sat nav option but be too tight to shell out for a cd player...?

I am pretty sure that in 2002 you only had the choice between a tape player or a Minidisc player behind the nav screen. Most people wanted CD - and got it, in the form of a 6 CD changer in the boot.
