I'm looking at an X5 3.0i later today. Its a UK Reg 2004 LHD model with 60,000 kms on the clock. On the face of it it sounds ideal but the car was an Italian Reg model that was re-registered in the UK in 2004. I think it was probably originally registered in an earlier year as the 3.0i Petrol model wasn't available in the Uk after 2003?

Any helpful comments about what to look out for would be appreciated

The 3.0i petrol certainly was available in the UK in 2004 - it was available throughout the production life of the E53 X5.

It will be easy to tell if the car really is a 2004 or not - all 2004 X5's should be facelift models with nicer looking front lights (For reasons known only to themselves BMW fitted the original X5 with the same headlight style as the pre facelift E39) etc.

Under the bonnet on the suspension turret or near area will be a sticker telling you the month and year the car was built.
