E36 - what's this part?

Morning,

Was wondering if anybody knows what this is? It runs from the bonnet to the body of the car:



Noticed it had a split in it, so have temporarily wrapped electrical tape round it. Want to order a replacement, but have no idea what to look for! I assume it might be some sort of an earth/grounding strap, but a quick Google doesn't throw anything up which looks similar to that.

It's an earth strap.

I wouldnt worry about replacing it, as long as it isnt snapped completely.

Thanks chaps. I had an idea it might be an earth, but couldn't find any pictures/diagrams on the internet to confirm.

It hasn't snapped completely, but it has started to fray slightly. It's now pretty well insulated with electrical/duct tape, but assuming they're quite cheap, I may as well order a replacement.
