Hi all,

Have an M6 but think she's gotta go, so just got this (collect next weekend)

http://www.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/auc/car_details/0,,1260...

Have had a 335d coupe and a 635d coupe before and had both remapped - excellent cars. Has anyone had a 123d remapped? Would be interested in some reviews on the 123d from current/past owners? Either with 'standard' or remapped ones - perhaps leaving standard is the way to go? I'll be leaving totally standard otherwise.

Oooh - do these have runflats? It has the 18" Msport alloys (as per link)

Thanks in advance - and feel free to mock me for having the M6 up for sale........biggrin

Don't know much about them but Im curios why you have sold the M6 35d's for a 2L diesel? Do you have to travel the country or are you just sick of the payments?

Not mocking you understand.

Fair comments. M6 way too silly for the UK. Fuel consumption is quite silly too - but that was to be expected. I just really love the torque and driveability of a good diesel. As I've had the 335d and 635d, thought I'd try the 123d.....and I had a 118d loaner from bmw when the M6 was in for service and I absolutely loved it. Good fun and rear wheel drive, excellent build quality and good residual resale value. To be totally honest, just sick of having a big 'look at me' car and losing shed loads in depreciation and running costs. Don't get me wrong, the M6 is a marvelous weapon, but probably more so in Germany. Oh, and I'm getting old (38) so probably just wising up?! I dont have to sell the M6, but it just doesn't work for me. I'll enjoy the 123d I'm sure and then have some dosh left in the wallet for decent holidays and whatever else takes my fancy!

Just re read this post back - I'm turning into my dad.....biggrin

Wasn't sure when you first said, but the new 1er looks nice and spose your comments make sense.

I'll miss your M6 tho, glad I got to drive it before she goes. One last blast this weekend while she's still about?

I got a 123d m-sport coupe at the start of the month.

Great little car.

Previously had an E92 M3, and before that a E46 M3 CSL.

When I had the CSL, I had trackday fever, well more specifically nurburgring fever flowing through my veins, and it was perfect for me.. I had it for 3.5 years, and fully track prepped it over my time of ownership.
However by the end it was fully caged, harnessed, so was no longer the ideal as a road car... so I decided that a new M3 must be the right thing to get.

and the E92 M3 is a brilliant car.. but I went mad at the fuel consumption... ~£1200 in 3 months (3500 miles)... which was significantly worse than what I'd had with the CSL....and so I decided to be sensible, and get a more economical road car...which sounds pretty similar to what the OP has gone through with his M6.

I went for a new one, as got quite a good deal, and I wanted satnav, iphone connector, logic7, xenons, adaptable headlights etc.. perhaps not the most sensible thing to do, but its made the car fit my needs perfectly.

It handles very well, its quick enough... mine has done 880 miles now, and is loosening up nicely, and I'm so far averaging 39.7mpg.. on the computer which whilst low for a diesel, is about 2.5x what I got in the E92 M3 (avg 14.8mpg), and I get ~400 miles to a tank (which is smaller than that in a M3 for which I was getting closer to 200-250 miles).

good choice smile

You can afford a E92 M3, the insurance and servicing and running costs but you can't afford the petrol?

Hi Sparklyclarky!

Wow! there's me looking forward to seeing your vinyl wrap on the M6 and you've gone and got rid!!

And you're never to old to enjoy a sports car! I'm yet still to get a true 'weapon' for my own, but I've decided im going to wait till I can run one properly !

That said, my bro has just swapped the F150 Harley for an Alpina B3s! I haven't driven it yet, but the spec's look awesome!

My vote is to definitley get the 123d re-mapped to get the best out of it. If the last place that re-mapped it you are happy with, then see if they'll do this one for you at a good price. Otherwise, you've got Mike and Gee at A-LTuning & Advanced Auto Technik over in Langley wink

I was at the Virgina Water meet the other weekend, and met (forgot his screen name now!) with the 135i in white, and he said he loves the car except for it's relatively high fuel consumption! so your 123d should provide an excellent dollop of power combined with much more wallet friendly fillups!

Are you going to get the 123d vinyl wrapped then! wink

Cheers, Dennis!

Yes... and I can afford the petrol too. smile

However it was at the point of being annoying... and took the fun out of owning and driving the car.

Normally I'd counter the annoyance with a quick drive, which'd restore the grin to my face, but I did something I'd not done in 10 years... and went on a 3 week holiday last year.. away from cars, phones, internets etc (rain forest in south america), and by the time I returned to the UK I'd decided that I wanted to spend less money on cars, and use that money else where... such as going on more holidays smile

Great choice! I'm really loving my 123d 3 door. There are quite a few remap options available, so check out www.babybmw.net for owners' experiences.

It's a great all round package. I always laugh as it seems like cheating that something so fun and nippy can return such good mpg.

Thanks for all the replies and advice - kinda 'nice' to know there are others that have done similar!

I'll be sure to pop on over to the links provided - I'll keep the same/similar user name (can I use 'sparkyclarky'? - it'd be cheating with no sparkplugs now!)

I'll definitely go for a remap, the previous diesels were mapped and all ran perfectly. I'm fairly light on the throttle most of the time, but always nice to have the extra oooomph.

Regarding my M6, it's up for a very reasonable price, so hopefully it will go, although I think It'd be easier to sell ice to eskimos! She's valeted and ready to go. I'll not drive her now cry

Dennis - I'll not wrap it!! hehe!

Oh - and I'll ditch the runflats soon as they're at 3-4mm.....

I have a remapped 123d, however mine is auto, the rev range is so short, and the gear ratios are so low that the gear chages come seriously quick, so I decided it had to be auto for me.

Love the thing, I had a remapped 120d m-sport before that and it was the best all round car I had owned. Kept it for 2 years which is a long time for me, I had the CSL at the same time and then the S4 avant (for about a month, what a piece of crap that was!) and then the 335i and the 120d out lasted them all.
Then when my second M3 went last year I had to decide on what to replace it with, it came down to either another 335i or a 130i and the 130i won.
Just happened to try a 123d coupe auto and loved it, so decided to put my sensible hat on and get one fo those instead of the 130i.

So I did. No regrets.
