I've had my car since July 09, bought from BMW and it had a service when I picked it up at 5,000 miles. The variable servicing back then was showing the next service due at 21,000 miles or Nov 10. It's now showing a service due at 14,000 miles or Nov 10... and I've done 12,500 miles so a service will be due very soon.

My question is for othere 335i drivers... is this common? It seems remarkable to me that the interval would drop so significantly and require a service every 9,000 miles. And before you ask, I don't ramp it everywhere my driving is a mix of short communute (2 miles e/w) and regular longer motorway journeys (150 miles e/w)... any others experiences much appreciated.

IIRC its based on fuel, something like 500 Gallons - so it gives you a number based on your average MPG - with commuting (and perhaps a few canings) the economy will drop, as will the miles to service.

if you go on a long run, you may find it goes back up again.

Thanks, it makes sense that its based on fuel consumption... But at this rate the interval will be over 300 gallons rather than 500.

That doesn't seem much to me. Will try and get a sensible answer out of BMW when I book it in...

The figure shown is not service due at 14K but that it is due in another 14K, so you have a long way to go before it needs a service. If you do lots of short journeys and/or high revs, the service interval is reduced. If it covers many motorway miles service interval is increased.

it takes everything into consideration, what style driving, throttle position, temperature etc, and it changes the service interval, i.e harder your drive and colder temperature it will tell you to service it more often.
