Morning all,

I am considering buying a used 650i for around 20K as my next car and have a few questions.

1. If I buy from franchised dealer what warranty will come with the car?
2. What is the cost of a BMW warranty per year after the original warranty has expired?
3. What is the likely service cost for a year assuming say 12K miles a year?
4. What sort of mpg can I expect based on a mixture of town and rural driving?
5. Any major reliability issues?

I’ve looked on the BMW website but cannot locate this information.

Thanks

I've only just got mine so can't help with all of those yet but...
1. 12 months warranty will come with any AUC. This also includes 12 months breakdown assist.
2. I'm waiting for someone to come back to me with this info at the moment. I'm guessing at more than £600 but less than £1000! It's also mileage dependant IIRC, under 60k miles is one price and over 60k is a bit more per year.
3. Can't help with that. I do significantly less than 10k a year and nothing in the iDrive needs doing for another 10-15k miles so I didn't bother checking the service prices.
4. Over 300 miles of mixed driving I was getting 19.5mpg. With a more eager right foot I'd expect that to be nearer 17mpg. However, my Wife has been driving it all week and has her average up at 24mpg. This is with only stop/start short journeys too.
5. Not that I could find any mention of tbh. I will see how this year goes and decide on extending the warranty after that.

At 20K I am guessing you would be in a high mileage car as that is 645 money at a dealer. As others have said, you get a full 12 month comprehensive warranty from a dealer and that will set you back around £750 for a low mileage car with a £100 excess and around £1k for a car with over 60k on the clock. Service costs are totally dependent on mileage and previous owner, so you need to scrutinise the service schedule closely on i-drive. Do not think conventional servicing as you get a long of small service jobs such as an inspection service (£250) every 24,000 miles or so, oil service (£220) every 20k, spark plugs (not had that yet) about every 40k, cat filter every 80k, discs and pads are about £600 front and £300 back, set of tyres cost £1,110 and you get 18 around town and mid 20's on a trip. No reliability issues as beautifully made and a joy to own but have alloys thoroughly checked as lots of cracked alloys out there (go on inside edge where hard to see)

Also shop around for spec as you don't pay much for extras on a used car and Head up display, Logicspeaker upgrade, bluetooth and pro sat nav should be top of your list and comfort access, exclusive leather, extended lighting and Ipod connection are lovely to have too
