Turns over, wont start, leave for few mins - starts!

Hello all

Title sums it up. E39 530d. Have had this a couple of times recently. Thought the first time it happened that I hadnt turned the key long enough for it to fire up. Tried again, and engine 'juddered' slightly, almost as though it was flooded or not quite firing on all cylinders.
Left if for a few minutes, and started and ran fine.

Any ideas?

Glow plugs ?

Hmm not exact same symptoms but similar on the 525d - was injectors
