Some of the cars i'm looking at come with quite a few extras. Things like 19inch wheels, extended interior light package, sat nav etc.

I always use Direct Line, do these factory added extras have to be declared on the insurance policy? If so, things like bigger wheels might bump up the policy. Is this the case?

I've just insured my 650 with Elephant and they put the question to me as "Does the car have any modifications or options?" I started to list things as I could remember them; "Yes, things like alloys, satnav, upgraded hifi, auto dimming mirrors, sunroof, do you want me to go on?" The girl replied "No, it's ok." So I left it at that.

Personally I'd rather another few quid on the premium than to give them a way out in the event of a claim.

Any optional extra should be declared on Elephant policies. They don't cover them otherwise.

But you could go on for hours listing the options! Surely they don't need them disclosed??

They don't need them disclosed - you do. I am going to leave them persoanlly because of it but just get the options list from BMW and fax it to them.
