I'm thinking of purchasing one of these in the near future, particularly the 120D/123D M Sport.

If you own one, what are your thoughts on it i.e. value for money, running costs, drive-ability, practicality, etc?

Thanks

My son had a 123d Coupe SE for the last 18 months. We were pretty impressed. Brilliant engine with un-diesel like willingness to rev, combined with decent economy (probably around 40 real world). Superb motorway car - very quiet at motorway speeds, good acceleration in 6th gear from 50 to 80. Surprisingly spacious, though the back seat is a bit claustrophobic. Pleasant to drive.

He had winter tyres on 17" alloys for the snow (available for sale!).

I've had a 123D M Sport for 6 months and love it.

They are not cheap to buy, but I got an 11 month old ex BMW management car fully loaded for £10k less than new list.

Running costs are great for me following a Z4Mc and 350Z. It averages 40mpg with spirited driving, road tax is only £120 and Insurance fairly cheap for me too.

I have had it remapped though, which makes a big difference, 40+ extra bhp, and 100 lb/ft extra torques. It's a pretty quick car, and fast enough for me and the driving I do.

Downsides are if doing a lot of motorway driving 6th is quite short and mpg drops over 80mph. At 70 you may get around 50mpg, at 80 down to low to mid 40's. Some say the M sport suspension is too firm with the run flats, but I don't have a problem with it and after the Z4MC I find it really comfortable.

They are much less common than 3 series coupes which I like, and they don't feel a lot smaller, unless you want to regularly put adults in the back.

The options list is quite long, and there are some extras some people consider are must haves. I personally like heated leather, xenons, bluetooth and 18"s. The new iDrive is great in my opinion but still not worth the money.

I will probably keep mine quite a while, as I cant find anything else that has the same combination of performance, economy, enjoyability, quality and toys.

I am thinking about getting one too although probably a 118d and perhaps a remap later. Anyone share any thoughts on what this unit is like versus the Audi 2.0 TDI?
