I need some new rears for my 130i m sport. just been to two local tyre fitters and both have refused to fit anything other than runflats to my car claiming that it invalidates insurance, compromises handling and messes up warranty. Im well aware of my tyres and have done plenty of research into runflats vs non runflats and want to fit some falken FK 452's

Now, can anyubody tell me - assuming i go for a can of tyre weld - am i able to fit whatever tyres i like?!

much appreciated

Yes, although I would double check with your insurance company to be on the safe side. The M3 (and some other BMW models) come with non-RFT as standard I believe - you get a can of weld and a compressor as part of a 'mobility kit' I think they call it.

Your local guys are being tw@ts basically - maybe try one of the mobile fitters who come to you ? They can be cheaper also I believe.

Let your insurance know your fitting non RFTs just in case.

I swapped the Michelin RFTs on my 335d for FK452s and what a bloody difference, I'm looking forward to doing the same thing on the 1series too

it's worth replacing all 4 at the same time, rather than having mix/match of regular and RFTs on the car

I've spoken to several insurance company's about this and they say providing they know then the policy is unaffected. In addition the handling is vastly improved.

Just ditched all four runflats on my 123d msport with the 18inch alloys and fitted Pirelli russo/nero thingies in exactly the same size (215/40/18 front - 245/35/18 rear). Non runflats, £160.00 per corner approx. Unbelievable difference in handling and ride quality. Tyre fitters never batted an eyelid - said everyone ditches the runflats!! Get a can of tyre weld and the jobs a good un'! biggrin

gone for the FK 452s. Will inform insurance for peace of mind. Always amuses me when you get told such tales.

looking forward to a more compliant ride and better handling....

Don't mix run flats with proper tyres on the same car, I had some very scary moments for the 3 days I did!!

My local BMW dealer said that many people change to non-runflats... he even told me where to buy them!!
