I originally posted this up over at the Alpina register, but there's obviously not as much traffic there as good ol' PH so thought I'd ask you learned folks for some sage advice.

I've had my car ('09 Alpina D3 BiTurbo) for about a month now, and I'm loving absolutely every second of driving it... with one very small (but increasingly large) fly in the ointment.

It has the "Professional" radio with bluetooth and iPod connection (the one in the glovebox) fitted, and for about two weeks now it's been dropping the bluetooth signal every time I try to make / receive a call, or sometimes it will pick up the call and then drop during said call. The phone (Nokia E71) is fully supported for use by BMW, and always worked in my R56 Cooper S Works with no problems (which I can only assume uses the same BMW-derived system)? Switching the phone off/on seems to fix it temporarily.

Also, occassionally the radio will turn on / tune but I get no sound. To compound this, the iPod connection (accessed via the CD changer menu on the radio) also won't register when this problem occurs. I took the car back into Sytners yesterday to be tested and as is the way with these intermittent issues it all worked faultlessly. They told me there isn't much they can do as the fault is intermittent and is showing them no faults (which I can kind of understand)... but what should I do in the meantime? The phone thing is driving me absolutely insane as I spend a lot of time on the phone whilst driving for work...

Has anyone else had experience of this (I guess the unit is consistent to most BMW's), or does anyone have any suggestions for fixes?

Thanks in advance...

Do you have lots of messages stored on the phone ?

Quick update, I (well, BMW) have managed to source the problem - I started the car yesterday and the same thing happened, so drive it straight to Sytner with the fault showing and rang them from outside the dealership (so I didn't have to switch the car off and risk the fault disappearing). Their lead technician came out, took one look and said "I bet the phone module is at fault, and knocking all the other bits out".

He disconnected the phone module et voila, everything was fine again.

Going in next week for a new module to be fitted...
