Future value of 2006 Alpina B5
Discussion
Afternoon all, first post, but long time lurker and former bm3w.co.uk fan, just wanted any views on Alpina B5, nice 2006 on classifieds with jasonbarker.co.uk, but at £32k or thereabouts I am worried what will happen to values over the next couple of years.
It's nearly 5 years old, and the new shape 5 series is now out and Alpina models due soon. I haven't had an Alpina before (I have owned several BMW's including an M5 and a 535d touring) but older models i.e. B10 can be had for £6k or less, albeit with high miles.
What do you think it will be worth in a years time with another 10k on the clock? Just as importantly any views on what it is worth now, is the asking price fair?
Thanks.

Price is about right I'd say but there are so few of these around it's difficult to compare. Potential for big depreciation IMO although the low mileage and neutral colour scheme will help somewhat.
Make sure the warranty is extendable as there have been known problems with superchargers. You'll get lots of good advice on the forum of thealpinaregister.com

After 4 years the steepest part of the curve is finished with. If you are buying a car on the basis that the lack of depreciation is the most important then perhaps consider a 90's Mercedes? They keep going for huge mileages and as they cost peanuts there is not much depreciation?
The relative rarity of the Alpinas will probably help but tbh I always find the best way is to buy well - every grand you save and all that....

The car Jason is selling can be yours for under £29K. Alpina's are pretty rare and seem to hold their prices better than M5's, but they appeal to a different type of buyer.
Epic cars to own and drive, not silly to service and so understated. Prices may soften a little but how many are on sale per annum, no more than five or six.

I don't think you read my post in its entirety but thanks for reiterating the same point I made - imitation is the sincerest for of flattery I understand
I'm sure I saw a similar age M5 up for about £25k so this strikes me as expensive; Alpinas are usually a bit cheaper than the equivalent M-car aren't they?

Basically when they are new Alpina's are cheaper than the M version from BMW but with the more recent models relative rarity means prices are holding up well.

I didn't realise you were referring to buying cheaply when you said 'buy well' - it appeared to be a reference to buying a 1990s Mercedes. Which I'm sure the OP found very helpful I don't think you read my post in its entirety but thanks for reiterating the same point I made - imitation is the sincerest for of flattery I understand
