First of all, apologies if this has been covered before.

My Potenza's (225/45s R17) will need replacing in the next few months on my E90 320d M Sport, I’m reasonably happy with them, just wondering if anyone else could recommend a different tyre (I will be sticking with run-flats).

Any help appreciated.

A few of the Z4 boys have swapped from standard Bridgstones to Michelin ZP tyres and say the ride is much less harsh, but then again more have moved away from runflats altogether as they have a wider range of tyres to chose from at lower cost too.

Well to be honest i'l probably get rid of the car next year to the leasing company, id rather leave it with run-flats on rather than to add a gripe to the list smile.

To be perfectly honest i dont actually find the run-flats that bad either.

I swapped from Bridgestones to Continentals on the 1 series, they were much cheaper at the time and seem much gripper, but that may be my imagination.

What's the wear like on the Continentals? Pretty happy with the wear on the Bridgestone's tbh.

I've not had experience with the other brands but have been very happy with the BS RFT, although would advise making sure you don't leave it till the last minute to get some ordered, 2 months waiting for the rear and looking like 2-3 weeks for the front (and their in desperate need of a change)

I own a 2007 E92 330D. It has Potenza RfT's fitted. Interestingly it has 225/40/R18's on the front nearside and rear offside and 255/35/R18's on the front offside and rear nearside - I have had the car just over a year and only just noticed that! Anyhow, the tyres need replacing and I wondered if anyone knows what the standard tyre size would have been when the car was new?
Have done over 30k so cannot be on original tyres.

On 18" wheels it is normal to have 225/40 - 18 on the front and 255/35- 18 on the rear.
The arrangement of tyres you have must make the handling interesting!
There are different part no's for front and rear wheels due to the stagger.
From memory the wheel width is *J front and 8.5J rear
i would suggest putting the tyres into the correct position ASAP.

Out of interest on the fronts i have:

225/45/R17/91V

and on the rear i have:

255/40/R17/94V

Only problem is i cant seem to find Continentals with the same size as what is currently on the rear?

Thanks KenD. Now just have to locate some good non-RFT's and get them fitted.

I had this with my E39, with one of the (fatter) rear rims fitted on the front. Even more confusing was the fact that the previous owner had deployed the spare so there were 3 x 'thin' rims and 1 x 'fat' rim on the car. I got it sorted ASAP. Also be sure to watch future tyre fitters like a hawk, as almost every time i get mine done somebody goes to make a mistake, either putting rims on the wrong axle or trying to install a 235 tyre on a 255 rim. I've had to correct them plenty of times - they hate it.

On the original topic I now have an E90 330i M Sport with part-worn Bridgestone RFTs (18). The tyres seem good enough in terms of grip and overall ride/composure but road noise is bugging me. I understand they may be as good as RFTs get but whats the general recommendation if I wish to ditch them? I was thinking PS2's and a can of tyre weld in the boot?

Is it really just a matter of swapping the RFT's and getting some tyre weld?

I don’t want to start up another RFT discussion, but there must be insurance implications?

Elsewhere on this site members have explained that you should notify the insurance company and they report no change to the insurance premium.

I am looking at Falken ZE912's nRFT's for my E90 330D. Can get four corners fitted for under £500 and they have good reviews from people that have changed.
