My service light came on today informing me that I'll need new rear brake pads within the next 1,500 miles. I called the local BMW dealer, but feinted before they had finished the sentence stating how much they'd cost to replace.

Anybody know what a fair price is to pay for the aforementioned items, and is it worth buying them separately and having a local garage fit them (I know an excellent local)?

Eurocarparts list the pads at £48 per axle.
Job shouldn't take more than an hour so £120ish would seem about right

I see you're in the north west - one of these places might be worth a call:

My 535d is booked into Baymow for a new track rod end - suffice to say there is a (very) significant difference in cost compared to my local stealer even allowing for the subsequent 4 wheel alignment.

The pads should be part of the BMW Value Price range so I'd expect original parts to be a similar price to aftermarket pads

Make sure the light can be reset by garage carrying out the work. I have put 2 sets of rears in my 335d and BMW had to reset light, it cannot be done through the instrument cluster.

Roofer, ive just put the second set on the rear of my 335d, plus discs. How many miles did you get from each set?

My first ones were changed at 22k the second, yesterday as at 52k.

I get about 30k a set rears, snow shortens their life through DTC activity.
