I normally get about 10k miles absolute maximum out of a set of rears on my 535D Sport and I kind of knew I was just about down to slicks having managed 12k miles on the latest set but I didn't expect this which I hadn't seen yikes

Just thought thank God I didn't have a problem when I was on the legal limit or having a laugh.....

I also had to change both fronts as they both had pothole damage. A small split to each on the side wall and two side wall lumps on one due to impact damage.

From now on, I'll always check tyres thoroughly!

The problem here was I checked the tyre visually from the outside whenever I washed the car, but the very worn bit was never visible and I should have investigated more thoroughly, perhaps even removed the wheels once a month to have a look.

The tread seemed to be just down to the wear indicators and I had no reason to believe the inner wall would be so worn. I had noticed the car was behaving strangely but assumed as the tread was low it was simply losing grip. I think now the side wall was possibly collapsing during when loaded.

The 5 series is notorious for inner tyre wear owing to the camber set up.

Its *usually* the rears that are more prone.

Also be wary of straddling those stupid 3/4 width speed humps, they cause wear and damage to your inner side walls which is not easy to spot!. (Fcensoredg stupid design if ever there was one!).

visual check a couple of time a week, specially when I know I'm getting to the limit, tend to do pressures every other week at least but haven't noticed much drop so quite happy. Have to say thats pretty bad wear / uneven wear.

Do BM's have trouble on each car?? My 1 series fronts have a similar look at the moment but its on the outside edge of each tyre, 75% of the tyre is more than legal but the last quater is shockingly warn in comparison...is this normal??

I check mine every week when I wash the car as I'd hate to miss uneven wear and tear on a tyre.
