Got a very nice E36 328 Sport as my run around at the end of last year but it seems to have a drinking problem. I know its a big engine and unfortunately an Auto which does not help, but in traffic the onboard computer is reading low 7's for the MPG. Friend of mine suggested they can have MAF issues which could explain it. Anyone experienced similar or got any suggestions?

Thats not right at all, MAF or Lambda sensor would be my guess, or a knackered autobox

id say its a sensor as above, would be worth getting a diagnostics check done even so there not 100%. mine was getting a little juicey so i took the maf off and cleaned it which helped

What MPG do you actually get across a tank? It can show some odd readings - tha anlogue needle (correctly) sits at 0mpg when stationary, I've seen the computer show 7-8mpg average if I reset it and sit in traffic.

WOrk out your actual fuel consumption - 28-32mpg combined seems about right, less than that and you're lookin at a failed MAF, VANOS, or lambda.

if its any help to compare. My 328 sport manual gets 34mpg/400miles to a tank on Average.
