E36 Convertible roof problems

Help! despite being able to reset the two motors and infact replacing the main drive motor for the roof, I just can't get the roof to close or open automatically. I'm confident the switch works, have checked the main and battery fusing and the tonneau cover actuates ok.
But the damned main motor doesn't show signs of life. The BMW dealer diagnostic said new motor and so I replaced, to no avail
Do i need to get the main computer to reset the roof, or do you think there may be an issue with the boot catch?
PS- any one want to sell their 330d or 330 conv?
