E36 track car built for the ring
Discussion
hello again
It’s just under 3 weeks before we set off for the ring in our e36 328 track car and the closer we get the bigger the small jobs left seem to grow. We have focused on weight reduction and not power increase this year. I think we have done pretty well considering the combination of skill and budget (or lack off). Not long ago I watched a video of an e36 getting a thrashing around a track against an e30 on youtube. I decided that I wanted to have a go and knowing full well that no one would lend me a touring car for the day, I and an equally enthusiastic individual took about building a road legal clone of the car in the video.
We are almost there and intend to spray it in a few days now that all the mechanical work has been completed.
Can someone tell me how to post photos on here and I will put some pics up?

So we ripped the interior out, this was probably the most enjoyable part of the project looking back, the second task was to get rid of the disgusting rims and replace them with some M3 alloys which I had always liked. Removed the sound deadening which was incredibly heavy and quite easy to remove with a heat gun (as long as you don’t melt it).
Then the looms came out along with every metal bracket we could find that didn’t have a job or was not integral to the car.
We put her on axle stands for the winter and then started on the outside.

Yes I agree, that was the next thing on the list so we got an intake manifold from eBay. I wouldn’t say it was the bolt on item that we thought it was as you have to re route the water pipes and vacuum sensors. We also took out all of the plastic in-between the intake pipes and stripped and refurbished the throttle body. Finding the manifolds on eBay for the right money is the problem now as everyone has cottoned on to the mod.
