I have recently bought a BMW 535d msport and i have encountered a few problems since i bought it. On occassions the screen for the i drive system just keeps flashing with the BMW sign and won't turn on. Also ther is a funny smell when the heater/air conditioning first comes on. I have had a diagnostic on the car because i was going to get a re-map but the guy told me that cylinder no. 5 is not working correctly and two of the glow plugs need replacing. I am based in the midlands and don't really want to go through a main dealer. I was hoping that i could get some advise from some fellow BMW lovers on here.

Cheers,

Stu.

Where abouts in the midlands are you? That would help to recommend a local indy if you share that info.

Had the car got full history, whats the mileage etc?

Do you notice any impact drive-ability or performance with the glow plugs or cylinder 5 not working as expected? Or is it just something that the re-mappers have detected from their testing?

Thanks for your comments. The car has full service history and 88k on the clock. The only thing that i notice on the performance is that it suffers a bit of turbo lag when you put your foot down which it shouldn't really do with the small turbo kicking in first. I am based in Cannock within easy reach of walsall, staffs and wolverhampton.

I had some problems with the iDrive on my old 535d M Sport...a software upgrade sorted the problem out. Not sure if an independent can do software upgrades ?

Theres a place in wolvo that people recommend. X BMW mechanics, a BMW independent specialist. I guess they will be your best bet if you need some work done.

Hopefully nothing serious. Let us know what they diagnose. Hopefully the cylinder problem is glow plug related.
