loud popping/knocking

Hey guys so recently bought a 3215i 1993. so i did an oil change aswell as the fuel filter. when i went to turn it on it would rev on its own and a loud poppin noise would came from the side of the engine uder the intake its not costant maybe evey 2/3 seconds. and i put the correct oil in it
