E36 tail light wiring

Can anyone point me in the direction of some E36 wiring diargrams for the tail lights?
I have a 1998 318is to which I have fitted the lights from an M3. The OE wiring connectors didn't align with the pins on the lamp units so I got hold of the M3 connectors and a few inches of wiring, with the intention of splicing it into the car's original wiring harness, but the colours don't correspond. What's even more annoying is that testing the wires one by one with a multimeter doesn't seem to work either. A little help would be appreciated...
