Zippier final drive for my E34 540iAT

So I went drag racing in my big silly E34 touring last weekend. This highlighted a few things for me:
1. an E34 touring is not a drag racing car even with a 4 litre V8(so I probably won't be doing that again for a while!)
2. She's only quick once on the move, 50mph or so with around 4K+ on the tacho.
So I'd like the car to be a bit quicker lower in the rev range and generally feel faster. I have indentified that the diff ratio is probably the week link here from my googling around I think I may have the 2.81 final drive giving me the epically long gearing (70mph @ 2K rpm). I'm happy to sacrifice even more mpg for a little bit more go so my questions are:
What diffs will fit my car?
Where (specifically!) can I get one?
How much should I pay?
Has anyone done this mod and what are the results like?
