1 Series Bonnet Release :-(

Anybody had experience of this problem ? Or maybe any ideas on a solution............

Have removed the handle and can see that the cable is still attached to the wheel, and on operating the 'pull' it returns again.... but no 'click & pop' at the business end

Get someone to push down on the front of the bonnet (where the BMW badge is) whilst you pull the handle. When the handle is fully pulled, tell the other person to stop pushing down on the bonnet.

If that doesn't work then you may have to investigate the release mechanism, which i suspect will mean taking one of the kidney grills out.

Got a similar problem just after we bought the car, it was 2 years old. Went in for a service and guy from Sytner left a voicemail saying they can’t open the bonnet (like there is anything I can do about that from 10 miles away) followed by the second message 10 minutes later saying they managed.

Once home, tried and it was very difficult. It managed to pop after few pulls but releasing the hook was really difficult. At the end, I soaked the mechanism in WD40 using the small plastic tube and it works fine since (3.5 years).

Had a similar problem on my Z4. Thought it wasn't going to open, full stop. Read that a liberal spraying of WD40 would help. Doubted it, but nothing to lose. Did the trick, no problems since.
