My new 635csi - so nice, but yet...
Discussion
So yesterday I picked up my new car. A gleaming, beautiful 1985 635csi - this one in fact:

Some more photos and details here:

It really is in absolutely beautiful condition. Drove the 30-odd miles home with an enormous grin. I'd forgotten how much attention these get. A nice chap came over to talk to me at the petrol pumps and then a guy and girl in a e36 M3 gave me a wave on the A3...
Got it home and safely tucked up in the garage.
Then today went out for a pootle around town. Big grin, happy days.
But then... a bloke in a Renault van shunted into the back of me in traffic.
Only low speed, which I guess is a blessing, but the lovely chrome bumper is now bent and pushed off its brackets. Arse! Feeling rather hacked off that some fool who clearly wasn't paying attention to the road ahead has damaged my beautiful new car already.
Hey ho.
Just hope I can get it sorted without too much grief. As you'll imagine, it's rather taken the edge of things... time for a beer.

Nice car, I get my 1985 635 back from the restorer on after 14 months on Saturday, been back to bare metal, new suspension etc, all that is left is to replace the computor display model, resoration was finished in May but I was unable to drive so my mate had to drive it and draw up the resoration punch list, returned it to the restore for work. Doc has now given me the all clear to drive so get is Saturday, if some one reverses into me on the way home their dead. Wll post some pictures.

Looks superb. Did you see the other two M635 they have in stock? If so why is the black one a lot cheaper than the red one?
Thanks!Yes - I saw both. In fact, I testdrove the black one with a view to buying it.
I think the price differential is partly down to rarity. I believe the red one is a limited "Motorsport Edition" car.
Both of them were lovely, but in the end I decided the "ordinary" csi was the one for me.
Richterswil - thanks for the kind words.
The 205 is immaculate. They've got some fantastically well-preserved cars. And, as you say, they present them very well indeed.
They were an absolute pleasure to deal with as well - the business is run by two great guys who are clearly real enthusiasts. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Just had a look at the link you posted - there is a dealer who knows how to present cars for sale - fantastic!!
I love the 205 GTi!!
The last time I saw cars presented that well on the internet, it was by BRABUS! Impressive that they also give the same attention to a 118d as to the classics.I love the 205 GTi!!

If only I had more space and money.............
Wrighty- I've got a M635 that had a low speed shunt in a car park (I guess- I came back to find a cracked rear light and a wonky rear bumper). The rear bumpers attach with 4 bolts at the back and one bolt each side. The mounting brackets are deformable, so with a light mallet you *might* be able to straighten them out (I did so that it looks presentable on mine, but I'm lurking on e-bay for a good condition rear bumper still....)
Thanks all - very kind.
It was a huge relief to find out that brand new bumpers are still available. It turns out that even my local BMW dealer can get me one... approx £750 in total, but it's a relief to know you can still get one.
Just waiting for a couple of written quotes and then we can get on with getting it mended. And really hoping the damage doesn't go any deeper. It doesn't look like the boot floor is bent, but until the repairers start stripping it, they can't tell for certain.
A real discovery this week has been the "asap" BMW website, which lets you view exploded diagrams of (what seems like) every part of my old 6er. Really handy for finding parts numbers etc and dead easy to register: http://www.parts.bmwgroup.com/

Wrighty, can you do me a favour, I am trying to get my 635 back fully origianl, including restock the tool kit, all the spanners are missing, should be 6 number. Assuming your kit is complet can you tell me the sizes of the 6 spanners and are they open ended or ring?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance
Sorry to say my toolkit isn't complete either - I think everything is there except the spanners. Typical eh? It's on the list of things to sort out over time (number one being the bumper, number two being a set of imperial cross-spokes with decent rubber to replace the crappy metric TRXs...).
Sorry!
Sorry!
