I have recently purchased a 54 reg BMW 525d automatic. Loveley car but I can't seem to get within spitting distance of the published mpg performance figures. I know the official ones are a joke but even so combined mileage at 31mpg is crazy! (or is it) Previous car BMW E39 525d manual constistently returned over 40mpg and up to 45 on long runs. Is it my driving style on automatic? I don't floor it and lift off early to allow it change up. Any ideas or it is just that the mileage figure claims are way out of kilter?

Our 525d of similar vintage does 26mpg around town and 35 or so on a long motorway run. The later facelift cars with the uprated engines are a lot more economical.

My 2007 525d does 40-45 mpg. But the mpg has vanished from the display - wretched iDrive!
