Jump starting a 316i?

A friend has left the lights on on their 316i overnight and now the battery is completely dead. We have tried jump starting it to no avail, using the points under the bonnet and in the boot, it just makes a clicking noise.

Is it worth leaving it connected to another car with the engine running for 5 or 10 mins or should it just start off my cars battery?

Unfortunately a bump start isn't really an option.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Yes, try 30 mins in 5-10 do not work.
