Apologies, the PH search function is not working at the moment, so I don't know if this topic has been done before.

I have a 2007 X5 with air suspension at the rear which has collapsed. Workshop tells me one side is leaking, probably caused by the millions of speed humps near where I live, so both need to be replaced at the rear. The car is 3 years old (a year out of warranty) and approx 70000 km (44000 miles?) which is not a lot in my book for suspension to be failing. Not driven particularly hard over speed humps (indeed I see most other SUVs driving faster over them).

Anyone had this happen to them?

Thanks,

Harris

They are always going it would appear that it is a fault with them, the same way the fault is when the rear axles seem to bow outwards andc ause the inner most of the tyres to wear quicker thatn the rest of the tyre, however BMW dont seem to think this is a problem which should be theres.

It seemed to rear its head on the new 3 series as they were wearing tyres out on the inner edges as well.

The air suspension always was prone to problems - had a few probs with mine. Probably not what you wanted to hear though.

My E39 near-side went a few weeks ago - first time they've gone, with 100k on the clock.

Quite common. But 3-years old - blimey that's going some. Unless the design is somewhat different.

Although please see my "E39 stuck in France" thread. Caution! I've learnt my lesson and would do both in future....granted an older car.

Thanks for all the replies, chaps. Looks like it's not uncommon.

To roofer's question, I'm in Dubai where the warranty is only 2 years and cannot be extended.
