I recently got a 318iS from a friend and was informed 'the alarm unit is in the glovebox as it just goes off if you plug it in, I think there is dirt in a sensor, you'll need an auto electrician'.

Up until today I've not bothered to connect the box to see what he meant. I plugged it in and it goes off straight away, the remote fob will not deactivate it either. I don't know if it's a simple case of reprogramming the fob or something else? The fob I have opened up and looked at, the battery terminals were dirty so the light didn't come on, I've cleaned them and it comes on now, so seems to work.

It's a BMW unit but seems to be quite poor, much preferred the one I had in my 328i, better fobs and it actually worked fine.

The alarm system I have is pictured below, any advice on it would be great as I'd like to have RCL and an alarm, just in case.

6 - Hard to tell but light is on.

As an aside, in image 3, on the right there are three little sockets. I have two plugs for these sockets, is this normal?

The wire coming out is I guess the remote ariel to pick up the signal from the fob?

Any advice people can give about this alarm system and why it isn't working (or working too well I guess :P)?
