Just brought one of these, anyone else got one? before anyone says, I wanted a true auto, ie not an smg M5 and I've come from a 600hp car so wanted something smooth and quiet.

Any pros or cons in general?

I like the concept, especially a Touring.

But, would have to be manual, not sure they make one. Auto is a no-no for me....

I know what you mean but I specifically wanted an auto to make general driving easier. Been there done that with sports stuff.

Quite like the idea as an alternative to a 535d Touring. What's the juice use like?

Its just the 4.8 engine - so low/mid 20's should be attainable. Expect under 20 around town / short runs though.

Totally agree re the M5 but they are totally different tools. The M5 is a supercar and can be extremely expensive to maintain/run, the 550i is a quick cruiser and I brought into the lata. Dont worry I wont be putting M badges on it! wink

Don't expect anything more than 25 at all IMO. I have the same engine in my car and round town it gets 18-20, you can add 1 or 2 if you nanny it. I had some long runs on European motorways in the summer and was getting a solid 25 at 85-95.

Very nice engine though, stick it in M3 and sport and its quite usable, will pull hard if you're doing 30 or 90. Sounds awesome from outside too, a touch more cabin noise in my 6 would be nice though.

I had one until very recently and owned it for 18 months. Very nice car, cannot be compared to the poor gearbox in the M5 - a proper ZF auto as it should be. Fuel consumption not bad for a car of that weight and power but if you are doing less than 15k per year shouldn't be an issuie. Enjoy!

Picked it up today. Needs tyres and tracking doing so took it easy and got 31mpg on the way home allbeit mostly motorway around 75-80lepton. Pickup from 30mph is astonishing for such a big car and its effortless and super smooth, very impressed so far I have to say and Ive just come out of a car that used to pull away from the M5 variant.
Funny how the Idrive says its 9000miles overdue for a service yet it was only done 10k miles ago! so much for BMW dealers being above the usual crap. Anyone know how I can manually re-set it..?
